I’m biased and will always say yes, but let me explain why. Film comes with actual costs behind the scenes like: the film stock itself, professional lab processing, and scanning, which is why it’s usually offered as an add on to a digital package rather than a replacement for it. What you’re paying for isn’t just prettier photos, but also completely different texture in your gallery.

Digital trends shift constantly, but film has basically looked the same for decades, so your wedding photos won’t feel dated! If you love the way film looks in old family albums or in movies that feel timeless rather than trendy, wedding film photography is so worth it. It depends on your package, but film is usually used selectively throughout the day rather than for full coverage! Most couples get a meaningful set of film images woven through their gallery alongside their full digital gallery! I usually tell my couples 25-30 images, per film roll.

How long does it take to get film photos back?

Film needs lab processing and scanning, which adds time beyond a normal digital turnaround, you can expect film images to take longer! Usually by a few extra weeks compared to your digital gallery, but I will always keep you updated if we work together!

Does film photography work well in low light, like at a reception?

Defintiely! It just requires totally different technical handling than daylight shooting. I personally prioritize film during the day and golden hour, digital handles the low light reception coverage!

Can I choose which moments are shot on film?

Some photographers offer this, but honestly most of us make that call in the moment based on the light and what’s happening. Trusting your photographer’s eye for when film will shine is a big part of what makes it work so well! You can also let your photographer know if you have any requests.
