I feel like not enough couples know about Sugar Beach Events, and I want to share all about it because it’s one of the Maui wedding venues that’s so versatile but also such a good find. As a Maui wedding photographer who has worked at venues all across this island, Sugar Beach Events is one of those spots that just gets it right every single time, and Mikenna and Derrick’s July wedding there is proof of exactly that!

Mikenna and Derrick’s wedding was casual, colorful, and super unique. The groom showed up in a T-shirt and pants, the groomsmen rocked suspenders, bright colors everywhere, and the whole day had this laid-back fun energy that felt nothing like a “traditional” wedding, and it was perfect. I love how this venue can be dressed up or dressed down, so it makes it the perfect venue for any couple. The backdrop is always stunning either way, and that ocean view doesn’t care what dress code you picked.

What Makes Sugar Beach Events Such a Special Maui Wedding Venue

One of my favorite parts about Sugar Beach Events is the location! Kihei sits on the south side of Maui, which means more sunshine, more golden hour, and that warm, glowy light that I love! Mikenna and Derrick’s July wedding had all of that going for it, and the bright colors they chose popped against the ocean backdrop in the best way.

The venue itself is a custom-built oceanfront estate, which means it was designed specifically for weddings and events rather than just adapted for them. There’s a dedicated bridal suite on the property, in-house catering, and rentals included in the venue fee, which makes the planning process so much more streamlined than piecing everything together from scratch. Mikenna and Derrick made it completely their own with a casual, relaxed vibe, and it was stunning. Other couples go full elegant with florals and formal attire, and it’s equally stunning. The ocean doesn’t discriminate, and neither does this venue!!

Whether you’re envisioning something intimate with a small guest list or a full celebration with everyone you love, Sugar Beach can flex to fit. And because it’s right on the water in Kihei, the beach is always right there for portraits during golden hour, which as a photographer makes me very happy. Those oceanfront sunset portraits at a venue like this are the kind of photos that end up framed on walls for decades.
